Western Ghats was adjudicated with UNESCO’s World Heritage Site status for its unique geomorphological features and high diversity of flora and fauna species. It is a biodiversity hotspot for high endemism unique to the Western Ghats found nowhere else in the world. At FFS, our central pillar of restoration is conserving and propagating the endemism of diverse floral species of Western Ghats. While our focus is to primarily converse RET species, our planting efforts in partnership with natural regeneration helps propagate numerous other species.
The 150+ tree species we conserve could be broadly classified as wild edible fruits, riverine, pollinator attracting and medicinal. Below are some of the species we have been planting as part of our restoration efforts.
