Meera

Meera is currently consulting for Smarter Dharma, a sustainability solutions company. She handles various sustainability projects across domains on hospitality, construction and spear heads projects from audit to implementation phase. She has been involved in resource efficiency improvement across energy , water and waste. Her role demands constantly finding solutions to challenges in sustainability that are faced by businesses and bring in efficiencies in bottom line through a purely data driven approach. 

She has a 16 long years work experience in the  IT industry with TCS consulting with few of the top 500 banking clients in architecting their IT  solution globally.

She was exposed to Auroville and sustainable technologies in year 2006. She has headed the environment group for her company as part of corporate sustainability . Inspired by the philosophy of reaching out to the next generation through Sanctuary Asia’s Kids for Tigers programme, Meera had been associated with Kids For Tigers  for over 3 years.

She has led the Association for India’s Development (AID) sponsored  zero waste initiative in her apartment Tungabhadra, NGV starting from its inception to implementation with the guidance of waste management consultant Vellore Srinivasan. Today Zero waste management at Tungabhadra, NGV is a working model running since its’ implementation in Year 2011 offsetting over 90% of its’ waste from landfills.

Meera along with her friends have experience in planting and maintenance of over 3 Biodiversity plots in Wayanad conserving over 100 endemic species of Western Ghats ( Over 4000 tree saplings) . Rajesh

Rajesh

P.C. Rajesh is a Mechanical Engineer and a Management graduate. He started his career as a mechanical engineer and then later switched to IT post doing the management education. He has been in the field of process and quality since 2001 and have been part of the quality departments at companies including i-flex, Ernst & Young and Volvo. He is currently working with Volvo India Private Limited. He has been part of many audits and assessments on frameworks including CMMI, ISO, SAS and Six Sigma. Overall, has an experience of close to 15 years in the corporate world.

At Volvo, he was elected as the Chairperson of the CSR and have contributed to initiatives related to environment and education. Have been part of many workshops related to environment and sustenance at Auroville.

Rajesh  was part of multiple earth construction workshops  and is planning to actively get into propagation of alternate earth constructions.

Rajesh has been into practicing  a martial art called Aikido for the past 10 years. In addition to planting trees, his passion is to inculcate the right principles and ethics in kids for a better society and loves to work with kids.

Uma is a tree-hugger in the true sense. Second to none when it comes to passion towards nature, she lives an exemplary life as far as being conscious about her actions and their impact. She believes in the motto that small things matter the most and are the building blocks for greater good. Professionally an artist, she dreams of a world with unending greenery, free potable water and national parks abound!

Sheshadri Ramaswamy

Conservationist, Floral species

Sheshadri Ramaswamy has been strongly connected to forests since his childhood days trailing with his uncle who was a Range Forest officer , a hardcore field person .

In his 20s he was mostly into trekking forests of South India, when he was deeply involved in rescue and rehabilitation of urban wildlife.His forte’ is species identification, seed sprouting techniques, nursery management and land restoration by conserving floral species. He has travelled far and wide through the various forests of peninsular India and has gained decades of experience working with tribal communities, forest officials and nursery veterans.

He was later inspired by Mr S.G. Neginhal ( I.F.S. Retd) who as the DCF of Bangalore between 1982-1987 who has to his credit  having raised one and a half million trees with 97% success rate. Sheshadri politely attributes his vast knowledge about trees to his close association with Mr.Neginhal who has authored several books including endemic trees of Western Ghats. Sheshadri has  been working with Mr.Neginhal, who is his mentor and constant guide from past 15 years . Under Neginhal’s guidance, Sheshadri has raised tens of thousands of indigenous tree species from seed stage to full growth.

Sheshadri is a passionate field person and his vision is to disseminate working knowledge of flora based nature conservation to the generations to come and to raise a green army of thoroughbred and effective conservationists who’ll in time put a green dent on our only living planet. Sheshadri has to his credit turning several interested civic groups in Bengaluru to active involvement in urban tree conservation with his pain staking research findings on urban spaces around trees. He has silently inspired and trained many young people on urban trees of Bengaluru through Hasiru Usiru. His passion is to work in close association with trees and kids. His field knowledge leaves kids in awe of his nature classes and has inspired many of them.

Dr. Anil Panolil Chirikandoth

Dr. Anil Panolil Chirikandoth

Dr. Anil Panolil Chirikandoth, President , Forest First is a post graduate in Ecology from Salim Ali School of Ecology and holds a PhD in Forest Ecology and Management from Forest Research Institute, Dehradun, India. Anil PC is a VCSA approved AFOLU Expert and Technical Expert for VCS- J&N REDD Initiative. He is also a Member of Expert Committee constituted by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India for developing C&I for sustainable management of plantations in India.

Dr. Anil is engaged in forest research and action for the past eighteen years. His major area of involvement is forest degradation, biodiversity conservation, Non Wood Forest Products and sustenance of forest dependent livelihoods. For the past eight years, he is also engaged in exploring and utilizing climate change mitigation market instruments/mechanisms, both from the compliance and voluntary markets for forest and biodiversity conservation and management.  He has worked as Project Scientist in Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI), as Senior CDM Consultant in the CDM wing of Federation of Indian Chambers Commerce and Industries (FICCI), New Delhi, as Lead Verifier for Bureau Veritas Certification (BVC, Malaysia) for validating two Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) methodologies for availing  GHG benefits from avoided logging of tropical rainforests. He has also assisted BVC in CDM Forestry validations as a Forestry Expert and as a self employed Consultant for various public, private, community/individuals/organizations for identification and initiation of forest based offsets towards various stages of UNFCCC registration and for meeting voluntary offset standards. Working with the KFRI team as a Consultant, executed 10 Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) projects for forest land conversion due to proposed developmental projects.  With the KFRI team involved in a consultancy project for testing and developing Criteria and Indicators for sustainable forest management and in various other research projects funded by international and national funding agencies like BCN- USAID- WWF, Mac Arthur- UNESCO, French Institute of Pondicherry, CIFOR, MoEF, etc.
